چکیده
This paper deals with the eigenvalue singular problem of the spectral type differential equations of the fourth-order self-adjoint differential operators 1 ð1 xÞð1þ xÞ d dx ð1 xÞð1þ xÞ d y dx " # ly 1⁄4 0; yð 1Þ; yð1Þ finite where, p P 1; q P 1. It has been reported in the literature that spectral type differential equations above have general solutions in terms of hypergeometric functions. In this work it is showed that the general solution in terms of hypergeometric functions reduces to Jacobi orthogonal polynomials (as eigenfunctions) in the case of eigenvalue singular problem. The corresponding eigenvalues are found. As application, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of mechanical transverse vibrations of a nonuniform singular structure are reported. 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Keyword: Factorization method Self-adjoint differential equations Eigenvalue problems This paper deals with the factorization of self-adjoint differential operators Lð2nÞ 1⁄4 1 q d n dx qb d n dx , and their spectral type differential equations. Sufficient conditions of factorization are reported. A large class of differential operators and equations that can be factorized is obtained. The fact...
متن کاملINVESTIGATION OF BOUNDARY LAYERS IN A SINGULAR PERTURBATION PROBLEM INCLUDING A 4TH ORDER ORDINARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
In this paper, we investigate a singular perturbation problem including a fourth order O.D.E. with general linear boundary conditions. Firstly, we obtain the necessary conditions of solution of O.D.E. by making use of fundamental solution, then by compatibility of these conditions with boundary conditions, we determine that, for given perturbation problem, whether boundary layer is formed or not.
متن کاملOn Approximate Stationary Radial Solutions for a Class of Boundary Value Problems Arising in Epitaxial Growth Theory
In this paper, we consider a non-self-adjoint, singular, nonlinear fourth order boundary value problem which arises in the theory of epitaxial growth. It is possible to reduce the fourth order equation to a singular boundary value problem of second order given by w''-1/r w'=w^2/(2r^2 )+1/2 λ r^2. The problem depends on the parameter λ and admits multiple solutions. Therefore, it is difficult to...
متن کاملSimulation of Singular Fourth- Order Partial Differential Equations Using the Fourier Transform Combined With Variational Iteration Method
In this paper, we present a comparative study between the modified variational iteration method (MVIM) and a hybrid of Fourier transform and variational iteration method (FTVIM). The study outlines the efficiencyand convergence of the two methods. The analysis is illustrated by investigating four singular partial differential equations with variable coefficients. The solution of singular partia...

By a solution of () we mean a function x ∈ C[Tx,∞), Tx ≥ , which satisfies () on [Tx,∞). A solution is said to be nonoscillatory if x(t) = for large t; otherwise, it is said to be oscillatory. Observe that if λ≥ , according to [, Theorem .], all nontrivial solutions of () satisfy sup{|x(t)| : t ≥ T} > for T ≥ Tx, on the contrary to the case λ < , when nontrivial solutions satisfy...
